Bongaigaon,June 30 : It is a historical day for Bongaigaon alongwith other districts of Assam that today Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine is launched. After launching of the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine( PCV) in Guwahati at State level by Keshav Mahanta, Health and Family Welfare Minister,Assam in Bongaigaon also the PCV vaccine is launched by Dr. M S Lakshmi Priya, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of the district at Bongaigaon Block Primary Health Center.She says that the PCV vaccine is now available under Universal Immunization Programme at free of cost.This vaccine will decrease 30% mortality rate of children from Pneumonia. Total three doses of this vaccine is being given- first dose is in 6 weeks, 2nd dose in 14 weeks and booster dose is in 9 months.
Dr. Nilmadhab Das, Jt.Director Health, Bongaigaon welcomes Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner( Health) and other Health officials present there. He says the PCV vaccine was available in 5 States of India i.e. Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar earlier.It is a matter of happiness that from today this vaccine is available in Assam also at free of cost.
Shyamal Kshetra Gogoi,Additional Deputy Commissioner(Health), Dr. Labanya Sarma,Additional Chief Medical & Health Officer, Ananda Sharma, District Programme Manager, Dr. Puspendu Das, District Immunization Officer and Dr. M Islam, SDM & HO were also present there in Bongaigaon Block Primary Health Center in todays programme.
