BONGAIGAON, January 3, 2025; The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced a new passenger train between New Bongaigaon and Guwahati, addressing a long-standing need for a convenient mid-day travel option in the region. The new train, numbered 55817/55818, began its inaugural run today, departing from New Bongaigaon at 11:50 AM.
Starting from January 4, 2025, the train will operate daily. Train number 55817 will depart New Bongaigaon at 2:30 PM, reaching Guwahati at 8:00 PM. In the return journey, train number 55818 will leave Guwahati at 7:55 AM and arrive in New Bongaigaon at 12:10 PM.
This passenger service will stop at every intermediate station along the route, making it an accessible option for commuters. The train consists of 11 General Second Class (2S) coaches and two Seating Cum Luggage Rake (SLR) coaches, catering to the needs of local passengers.
The reintroduction of this train is a welcome development, as there was previously no mid-day local train service in this section. The lack of such a service had forced passengers to rely on crowded mail and express trains during the day. The new service is expected to significantly alleviate this issue by offering a dedicated local train for mid-day travelers.
This train replaces a previously discontinued service on the same route. Its reintroduction reflects NFR's commitment to addressing the needs of local passengers and ensuring better connectivity in the region.
Passengers and local communities have expressed their appreciation for this initiative, which is expected to enhance regional connectivity and improve travel experiences.
